About Together We Can
Work in the Cedar Valley

The principle of inclusive working occurs in meaningful employment.

The Inclusion Connection advocates for citizens with disabilities to obtain employment opportunities, including self-employment. This should take place next to school inclusion, home ownership, community living and personal relationships as an essential ingredient of an inclusive lifestyle.

Interestingly, we expect “typical” high school students to graduate, perhaps further their education, but then enter the work force.  In contrast, we do not seem to have those same expectations for young adults with disabilities.  What would happen if we just changed that mindset?  What would happen if we just changed that one thing?

What if changing our attitude was the only change we needed to create real change in the lives of people with disabilities.  If we assumed all people could contribute something to the workforce, think of the profound affect that would have on funding and the way employment services were delivered.

The Inclusion Connection believes that individuals with disabilities can contribute, if given support, and we need to prove it to them by expecting that they will work.  Having a job in the community enhances self-esteem, promotes the establishments of meaningful relationships and natural supports, decreases financial dependence and promotes self-sufficiency.  It is time to embrace a working life for all in the Cedar Valley, Together We Can!
